Part and parcel of the Dublin SIL Congress will be the Fáilte Club (fáilte in the Irish language means welcome and is synonymous with Irish hospitality). This will be an informal gathering place where people can meet, chat, enjoy a drink or simply relax. Without a doubt the social aspect of a SIL Congress is just as important as the scientific content. The SIL98 social committee wish to extend an invitation to all delegates to join in the caint, craic agus ceol (chat, fun and music), the lighter side of SIL, during the Congress.
Social events will commence on Saturday 8th August in the Fáilte Club. There will be a live band on Saturday evening. Other evening events will include a welcoming reception at the formal opening of the Congress on Sunday, a state reception at Dublin Castle on Monday to be followed by a visit to Dublin’s trendy nightlife and more live bands. Musical types are invited to bring along any musical instruments for a Seisiúin, an impromptu evening of music and song where musicians and singers can join in, to be held on Wednesday evening after the Mid-Congress Excursions. The international mix of cultures and musical traditions should prove interesting. Remember to bring your dancing shoes! There will be a céilí or traditional Irish dance night on Thursday evening. (Don’t worry, its easy and we’ll show you how). The Congress will finish with a Farewell social gathering on Friday.
